The story of gold - part

Gold came from outer space as we already learned. But how did it happen that gold got some value? The answer took lots of years - billions of years - and then again some millions of years.
After being dropped to the planet earth it took another billion years - thousands of years before today - until someone walked around and found a shiny yellow stone, and maybe he thought: Wow, what a nice yellow, shiny stone and what a nice present for my wife. He took it home and presented it to his wife, full of pride. Of course his wife asked him to keep his garbage outside of the cave. So he dumped it and forgot about it as they moved to a bigger cave.
Time passes. Then one day - still lots of years before today - another guy strolled around and thought it was a good idea to dig a hole into the ground just to take a look what's under the surface. What he found was something he hadn't seen before: A pretty heavy, shiny, yellow stone.
He took his finding and went back to the little village he lived in and asked all seven residents if they own such a shiny, heavy and yellow stone too. The unanimous answer was: No!
This was the moment the guy recognized the value of his stone - as it was the only one so far and he told his seven subjects: I am your Queen now and your King too, because I own a shiny, yello stone. Pay homage to me and do what I tell you. Approximately eight minutes and 24 seconds later someone stole his stone and the village had a new Queenking.
The new Queenking was a wiser Queenking than the one before and said to his people: Go out find more of those stones, give them to me and I'll go over to our neighbours and swap them in for food and other stuff we need.
They found two more of those 'Yellows' and the Queenking exchanged them into one banana, two coconuts and 42 peas. And from this moment on 'Yellows' had a value - admittedly a quite low value compared to today's price - but a value. Today you can check the value - the price - of gold on the go using our iOS-app GoldPriceOneMobile - but it wasn't always that easy. We'll talk about that in part 3 next week...
